MCD Seals 54 Shops in Chandni Chowk as Delhi Cracks Down on Illegal Construction

MCD sealed 54 shops in Chandni Chowk’s Kucha Mahajani on Supreme Court Monitoring Committee directions as Delhi intensifies action against illegal construction after the Satya Niketan building accident.

The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) sealed 54 shops in the Kucha Mahajani area of Chandni Chowk, marking a major action against alleged violations of construction rules in the national capital. Notices were also pasted on the shops as part of the sealing drive.

The action was carried out on the directions of the Supreme Court Monitoring Committee. Following the operation, the MCD’s crackdown on illegal construction and violations of established rules was clearly visible in the area.

The MCD has stepped up action against illegal construction and dilapidated buildings in Delhi following the building accident in the Satya Niketan area of South Delhi. After the incident, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta adopted a strict approach towards illegal construction and directed the Delhi Municipal Corporation to take bulldozer action against unlawful structures.

Following the Chief Minister’s directions, the MCD began taking action against illegal construction in different parts of the national capital. As part of the campaign, a bulldozer was used against an under-construction building in Bindapur in southwest Delhi. MCD officials and police personnel were present at the site during the action.

Junior Engineer Abhishek Pandey explained the reason for the action in Bindapur, stating that the MCD was carrying out action against illegal construction. The under-construction building was demolished using a bulldozer.

The sealing of 54 shops in Kucha Mahajani, Chandni Chowk, has further highlighted the MCD’s ongoing action against illegal construction and violations of rules in the capital.
